Features
They can grow to a maximum length of 30-40cm and come in a wide variety of body colors and patterns. They have eye-like patterns on their bodies that are said to deceive predators such as waterfowl and piranhas that target their eyes. They are carnivorous, eating small fish and crustaceans. When breeding, they lay 1,000-3,000 eggs at a time, and, unusually in the fish world, the parents take care of the young.
