Features

Features

A type of Corals known as a "soft coral" with a soft body. It does not have a large skeleton inside its body, but has small bones called spicules inside its cells. Because of this, alcea species are prone to stretching and contracting, and can be nearly twice as large when stretched as when contracted. This species lives in the shade among alcea species, and survives by preying on plankton and other creatures.

Features

They live in small schools in coral reefs and rocky areas. Larger individuals in the school tend to change sex and become males. They are quite similar to the grouper, the Amethyst anthias, but this species can be distinguished by the male's pointed snout and yellow lower jaw, and the female's yellow stripe from the dorsal fin to the tail fin.

Features
